semantic space · lipamanka

misikeke describes all drugs and medicine. It has no bias for the psychoactivity of the substance. Ibuprofen or antibiotics are just as misikeke as prescription amphetamines or SSRIs. misikeke is also used for recreational drugs, like cannabis. misikeke blurs the line between medicinal and recreational usage of drugs, which makes sense, because it's hard to draw an objective line anyway.

misikeke is common, but less common than most words in this dictionary. Speakers who don't use misikeke often use moku (if the medicine is eaten), or another word that is a better physical description (sike for pills, ko for powders or pastes, telo for liquids, kasi for plants, soko for mushrooms, etc.), instead of misikeke. For psychoactive substances, depending on how intoxicating they are, speakers may also use "nasa" to describe the intoxicating properties.

commentary

The word was used privately by jan Sonja up until November 2019, when she mentioned it in the ma pona pi toki pona discord server as a word she was experimenting with. It is believed the word was originally coined in 2007-2009 alongside pan, esun, apeja, monsuta, and pu, but this cannot be proven.
