semantic space · lipamanka

monsuta describes both the feeling of fear and things that cause it, such as monsters (be they physical creatures or intenral demons). In this sense, it can be difficult to tell which it refers to: the monster, or the fear? While it can be clear from context, it isn't always, so care is needed. People often say "mi pilin monsuta" to mean "I'm feeling scared." Note that speakers almost never use this phrase to mean "I feel like a monster," even though it could hypothetically mean that. This addition of pilin may help prevent the confusion of the dual meaning of "mi monsuta."

While this word is very common, it is less common than other words in this dictionary. Some speakers just say "pilin ike" to refer to fear, and choose one of the animal words to describe monstors.
